Choosing paint colors for your home can be challenging at times. Do you go dark, do you go light, should you stay with neutral colors, should you match all of the colors to each other all throughout your home? If you've decided to go dark in a room, can it be light in another? To help you with this task, read on for tips, especially if you've chosen a dark color to go with.
1. Try Out Colors First
Go to your local paint store and choose a few different paint colors. Purchase small samples of the paint colors you picked out, but don't choose more than four at a time if possible. You don't want to overwhelm yourself with too many options. Paint the colors on each of the walls in your room and look at them in different lights throughout the day. If one color feels too dark, or feels like it looks too much like another color (such as grays mimicking purples or browns), then choose something else, but at least you only purchased a small sample and realized you didn't like it. Always try out colors before you purchase multiple gallons of paint that you cannot return.
2. Use in a Well-Lit Room
Use darker colors in a room that has a lot of natural light. That is, unless you want to have a completely darkened room. A room that isn't well-lit will look nearly black, and could make the room appear much smaller than it actually is. Dark colors make rooms feel warm and cozy, but they can also make them feel small.
3. Paint Only One Wall
If you aren't sure about going dark on all of your walls in the room, try painting only one wall the darker color and the rest of the walls with a lighter color that matches. This will still give you that dark color, but also allow the room to not feel quite as small or gloomy. This is a good trick to use in a room that isn't well-lit.
4. Use Bright Decor
To help off-set the dark walls, you can use decor with pops of color such as greenery and warm wood tones. This can make a darkly painted room feel warm and cozy without being too harsh with other dark colors as well.
When choosing paint colors that are dark, be sure to try them out first before painting the entire room. If you need help painting or choosing a paint color, consult a company like AAA Action Painting for help.Share
