As our family expanded, we thought about buying a larger home. Eventually, we decided to put the wasted space in our current home to good use. That led to converting the basement into combination den and home office, and freeing up space on the main floor. The task was easier said than done. Along the way, we learned a lot about sump pump installation and maintenance, adding insulation to spaces under ground level, and treating the walls and floors to prevent mold and mildew.
